CarLa

Insulin, a hormone secreted by the pancreas to control blood glucose, is also able to influence the human vessels. Type 2 diabetes mellitus, characterized by elevated blood glucose, is associated with abnormal response of peripheral tissues to insulin as well as a variety of cardiovascular complications. The CarLa project explores the direct effects of insulin on vascular biology in patients with coronary artery disease, and how these effects are altered in type 2 diabetes mellitus. This work may provide novel insights into the optimal treatment of diabetic patients with cardiovascular disease.
